SLJ Week 1 Activity 6

 LI:Create a Tanerore kowhaiwhai

Today I learnt that when it is very hot and the air is shimmering Tānerore performs the haka for his mother, Hine-Raumati. This happens in summer as the land heats up. Our challenge was to think about this while we designed our own kowhaiwhai pattern to represent summer. My pattern is like the Tanerore waving as the heat of his body does a haka for his mother as the sun slowly goes into his rest place to do his haka the next day .

  1. Kia ora Lily,

I love your explanation of this beautiful kowhaiwhai! The story of Tānerore and Hine-Raumati is so interesting. Your picture is making me think of the blue sky we often see during summer.

I love being outside on sunny days. What do you like to do when the sky is blue?

    Keep up the good work!

    Nga mihi,

    Charlotte

  3. Hi Lily,

Ah that is so lovely! It sounds like you have a great time with your best friends. I like taking my parents dog out for a walk in the forrest near their house. It makes her so happy!

  4. Hi Lily,

Your design looks so creative! The thing I liked the most in your design is that it has a beautiful meaning behind it and it can be clearly seen in the picture. I also liked how you have added a well detailed blurb explaining the story of Tanerore. I just want to say that you were very intelligent by choosing this design! Do you know what a koru is? Can you tell something about it?

Great job! I am looking forward for your reply.
