This week for distance learning is history.I have chosen to research more about my pacific side and I came across Bullets on Black Saturday,Black Saturday was always known as The Mau Movement in Samoa. My presentation is on the link above, the link will take you to my presenation I did on The Mau Movement in Samoa. That will hopefully take you step by step of understanding the backgorund story of The Mau movement in Samoa. Many things impacted on me when I started researching more about what happen in Samoa. The Mau Movement was about a nonvolient movement for Samoa independence.Years later Samoa got an apology and acheived their independence.Something I found Interesting about researching about The Mau Movement is having the apperciation for my people in the past generations who scarfice their lives to give Samoa what they have today and every other day.

The Mau Movement Teel Paragraph/Pacific History

LI:To create a Teel paragraph that tells us what your time/event in history is.

Samoa Food: Black Saturday, hiding in the bush and finally, Independence!

The Mau was a nonviolent movement for Samoan independence from colonial rule during the first of the 20 century. Mau means resolute or resolved. A tragedy then happened during the Mau movement in the capital of Apia in Samoa on the 28th of December 1929. This day is known as Black Saturday in Samoa. Black Saturday is a day that commemorates Jesus lying in the tomb until his resurrection on Easter day.

The worst circumstance in New Zealand's relationship with Samoa occurred on Saturday 28 December 1929. It was caused by a noisy disturbance that exploded during a Mau parade along Apia's waterfront to welcome home two members who had been forced to leave their home and to never return back to New Zealand. The military police were also sent to target the unarmed and peaceful protesters of Samoa by Stephen Allen. The New Zealand military police started to fire on the peaceful protestors because first the Samoans didn’t trust the police and decided to throw stones at them. Then our brave confident leader who everyone looks up to, Tupua Tamasese Lealofi lll, went in front of the crowd  to stop the people who were throwing stones and to say we have come in peace. Eventually one of the military police officers shot him then shot many more who came to try and comfort the dying soul of our Ofisa (Chief) Tupua Tamasese Lealofi lll and men who were a part of the Mau movement.

The shooting went off for many hours until the clock struck 6:30pm, then the screaming of frightened children and widowed women (those who lost their brave husbands or spouse to a bullet wound caused by New Zealanders military police) had stopped. The day after that the 29th of December 1929 Tupua Tamasese Lealofi lll has fully lost his life along with many other men and children due to the incident that happened during the Mau movement. Sunday was an even terrifying day after the death of many men including the chief Tupua Tamasese Lealofi lll, where the Soldiers of New Zealand were raiding Samoan homes and killing men who were part of the Mau movement who were still alive. They never stopped looking for the men but the men were gone before they even knew it. Many more died during the search for the men of the Mau movement by the military soldiers confusing themselves by thinking they were about to attack but they weren't they were scared and looking for safety.

Many years had passed along with many men who were leaders themselves were set to rest and return to our heavenly father Jesus. To remain in peace and happiness. To pass on the beautiful words Tupua Tamasese Lealofi lll said before his final breath,

“Samoa filemu pea, ma si o’u toto nei ta’uvalea, a ia aoga lo’u mo lenei mea”( My blood has been spilt for Samoa. I’m proud to give it, do not dream of avenging it, as it was too spilled to maintain peace. If I die, peace must be maintained at any price.).

70 years later Helen Clark the Prime Minister of New Zealand in 2002 gave a full apology on behalf of the government to admit their action and taking families away were wrong. Now from today Samoa is still keeping Tupua Tamasese Lealofi lll’s word. Peace is still being maintained and forgiveness is still hard to give to those that have taken away their loved ones but they forgive to forget.

Anime/Manga Character Profile

 LI:To create a character profile

Our challenge was to choose our favourite anime/manga character. Our next challenge was to draw the character on our chromebooks or on paper. I chose to draw my character on google drawing because I wanted to work on my patience of taking my time and drawing about a task that is given. Our final challenge was to write a paragraph that describes our character and explains why this character is your favourite.I enjoyed this activity because since I don't watch Anime or anything to do with Animation I chose to use a character that best describes my intrests so I chose Kuribayashi Shino.

Recreating Famous Artworks

LI: To use Google Draw to recreate a famous artwork

LI: To use your knowledge of colour and colour mixing to replicate the colours used in the artworks.

This week we have been learning about famous artworks and colour mixing. The artwork I chose was the girl with a pearl earring by Johannes Vermeer. This artwork was painted in 1665.It was painted because the girl was asked to clean the marsters studio and Johannes Vermeer asked if he could paint her.Today it can be found in Mauritshuis museum in the Hague.Did you know the background sotry behind the girl wiht a pearl earring represents a young women in a dark shallow space, an intimate setting that draws a veiwer's attention exclusively on her.Unlike the mona lisa the painting of the gierl with a pearl earring isnt a potrait but a tronie.

Manga Artist

LI:To read for meaning and understaing.

Our challenge today was to use our smart searching skills to create a DLO in our own words that tells us about the life of our favourite manga artist or a well known manga artist.A fact I found interesting is learning more about a popluar creator work and finding more information about their background history. That is my interesting fact I found interesting because I never knew much about the Anime History until i researched.

The History of Manga

LI:To read for meaning and understanding.

Our challenge today was to complete a reading comprehension about the history of Manga to show that we are reading for meaning and understanding. Our final challenge in this activity was to create a DLO to share the information we found out.A fact I found interesting is since I dont really watch Manga or Anime and I don't know anything about it, until I researched about the history of Manga I was inspired of Osamu Tezuka work and it made me want to learn more of Manga and as I will.Osamu Tezuka work should be known throughout every generation that is being held no matter what happens Osamu Tezuka work should be known and kept alive until every knows about his independant work he created with such a wonderful and creative mindset.

Summary DLO

LI:To explain in fewer words what the text is about.

This week for reading we focused on Rangi Haira Jaxon Greening, and his very amazing shoe customizations. Rangi Haira Jaxon Greening is a 44 year old man, and he customizes shoes, but not for his passion for art and sneakers, but to show the world what his culture is and what it represents. Something I found interesting about reading about the Article of Rangi Haira Jaxon Greening is him expressing his Maori cultrure designing on desgining amazing shoe designs.

Provocation

LI: To use provocation to understand both sides of the story

A provocation is a act or speech that triggers emotion in others.

Our provocation that we were given was It’s costing Japan 15.4 billion dollars US to host the Olympics. Should host countries have to spend so much money on building Olympics venues? I worked collaboratively` together with Juel and we both formed our own opinions on what we think about the provocation.

We both shared the same opinion that we are against the provocation and that they should not be spending that much amount of money on the Olympic venues of they are going to be left and are going to be run down and not going to be used again.

Something I found Ineresting about doing this taskwith my peers,Is being able to learn from the and work with them them.Expercining Juel's thinking help me learn more about olympics and reading.

Ancient Greece posing

LI: To use our smart searching skills to expand our knowledge of Ancient Greek Mythology.

Today David shared the next reading challenge with us. It is all about the Greek gods and helps us to practise the skills we have been learning in our reading lessons with our teachers.

David created this task as part of his CARE award challenges. In this posting activity, we first pick five Gods or Goddesses and pick an image from around the world or the God or Goddess and write a caption for the post.

I found this activity interesting because we got to use this task as an instagram post but of the goddess.

The post that I found most interesting was Hera because one of the captions we used was It is hard to be the goddess of marriage when normally everyone usually cheats on everyone!.

Did This Happen

LI:To consider both perspectives

Our group has been focusing on consider both perspectives. Perspectives means a different points of view. Our group has been gathering information of our topic whether it is true or not.The topic was about sacred spots from Maori mythology. One of the myths our group decided to chose was Waipoua forest,Waipoua forest is the creation story of Tane Mahuta creating the Earth by lying between his parents Papatuanuku mother earth and Ranginui the sky father.Tane Mahuta pushed and stretched his parents apart to fight for the light and space for him and his siblings.Something we found interesting about our task given was exploring our researching skills to find the evidence that is true and not about the myth we have chosen above.

Summarising

LI:To explain in fewer words what the text is about

For reading, we have been focusing on summarising text information such as stories, articles and other texts. The text we used for this reading task was the traditional Maori story of how the world came to be. This text was about Papatuanuku and Ranginui waking up from eternal darkness in earth's first light, and Tane Mahuta (one of their children) separating them to grant his siblings and himself freedom from the darkness. Tawhirimatea was angry at the separation of his parents.

For this task, we found exactly twenty keywords to build an understanding of the text about. Keywords help us understand more in a short amount of time. Then from those twenty words, we chose six of those words to create a summary on. A summary is a short and brief description of the story so that we can understand the text in fewer words.

I enjoyed this task and found it easy because I am familiar with summarising and understanding texts using the key reading comprehension strategies so I can expand my knowledge of a story.

Main Ideas

LI:To indentify the main ideas in the text

For reading we have been focusing on the Maui and Sun story. Our task was to identify the main ideas in the text. Our information we have gathered together is our opinions we have mixed together to create a more explained main ideas.Something we learnt from this activity is to read the text and identify all the different main ideas we might find important to vital.Something we found interesting about this activity is being able to identify the main ideas of a text.

Venn Diagram

LI:Find as many simliarites and different as you can between the video and the text of " The Beggining.

This text was about Papatuanuku and Ranginui waking up from eternal darkness in earth's first light, and Tane Mahuta (one of their children) seperating them to grant his siblings and himself freedom from the darkness. Tawhirimatea was angry at the seperation of his parents.

For this task, we watched a video and read a text based off of the Maori story of how the world came to be (In the Beginning). We labelled the main parts of the video version that are not included in the written version, and labelled the main prts of the written version that were not included in the video. In the middle, we labelled the similarities between the two stories.

I really enjoyed this task and found it easy because I am familiar with identifying the key ideas and comparing the two similar but different texts/information sources.

New New Zealanders

LI:To idetify the main ideas in the text

We were tasked to read a story called "New New Zealanders," it was about how a boy named Christian Kaka and his family seeked for a better life in New Zealand due to the war going on at Syria. After the story we were tasked to identify the main ideas in the text. For the Three Vital Ideas were Registered refugees can't be sent back to their country, The Refugees wanted people to know their story and many families moved to New Zealand because their country is to dangerous.

This activity was interesting because I found out what hard journey the Kaka family had been through and how of a blessing was waiting for them at the end of their hard times.

My Reading Pathway

LI: To show my personal journey through the books

This week is book week at Panmure Bridge School, which means every class participates in a number of reading activities. One of our activities was to create a reading pathway that shows how my favourite books have changed over time. At the moment I like reading History books because it teaches me the past generations history and their living.

Polyneisan Pathers

LI: To evaluate (form an opinion) the text and respond to provocation.

A provocation is a meaningful action or speech that strikes strong feelings about lawful and political topics. A provocation is something used with the purpose to make someone feel angry or upset but that is not the purpose of our DLO. Were  the Polynesian Panthers right to Protest against the actions of the Government?

Polynesian Panthers was a group formed in 1971 by a group of university students and former gang members fighting for the rights of all polynesians that has been affected and scarred by these raids.Dawn Raids are raids that happened at dawn where police officers, government officials, and dog squads would raid the homes of Polynesian families and shine torches in the faces of many people no matter if they were elderly or little children police officers would ask for passports and ID if they were not shown then families who had all right to stay in New Zealand would be deported to there place of birth, this has caused trauma for many Polynesian people due to the traumatizing events that has taken place within their homes. The dawn aids will forever be a shameful stain in NZ. Police officers would also go up to people who looked Pacific Islander and  would ask for passports and identifecations these racial acts were kown as “Blitzes”.We think that the Polynesian Panthers had all right to protest against the wrongful actions of the Government because families were being teared apart and deported and also being traumatized due to the Dawn Raids.
