Duffy Assembly

LI: To understand how reading can change one's life.

Today we had Marc from Duffy come and talk to us about the importance of reading and how reading can make a big impact on your life.  Although Marc had some challenges in his life he used reading as a tool to get through the hard times.  Marc believes that there is only CANs and not CAN’Ts.I found these facts interesting because he made me think alot because he said you need to believe in yourself and that made me think really carefully because i need to take always have faith and believe in myself even when no doesnt . Hearing what Marc had to say about his struggle in the past made me think to myself and said to myself hanging out with the wrong crowd can lead you to a lesson you will regret and focus more on work becaue the more you focus the better your qualification comes out .

Key Competencies

LI: To compare the Key Competencies we think we will use on camp and the Key Competencies we actually used.

Before we went to camp our challenge was to think about when we might use the Key Competencies as we faced the challenges.  When we came back from camp we looked at this and compared how we thought we would use the Key Competencies and how we actually used them. I found this acitvity interesting becausde it help me control my actions and helped me get through camp successful by using formal langauge and correct actions .

5 minutes of Camp

LI: To recount a 5 minute snapshot of one experience you had at camp

Splashing in the beauty of nature .

As I was slowly approaching the beautiful mix of green and blue water in fear, the water was  steadily flowing down and off the waterfall into the river. A voice gently echoed saying ‘’next person ‘’,knowing that I was the next person up . My heart felt like it was beating on the outside of my chest like it was going to fall out and then  my legs started to quiver like the wind overtook my soul  .

When I took the first step into the freezing water it felt like i set foot into a big deep hole in the middle of the pacific  ocean out of nowhere , As the instructor was holding the kayak  I slowly lowered my body onto the Canoe I felt the Canoe raised  off the shallow and move towards the waterfall like entering a island of a magnificent, waterfall and beautiful flying species .

While the water guided my Canoe towards deepness i quivered so hard while placing the paddle that looked like a double sided ice cream scooper into my hands , when I finally had a good grip on the paddle while my knuckles were facing the beautiful white fluffy clouds in the great light blue sky as the sun slowly going behind , through the white clouds as each person slowly floated off the shallow water and off they went scooping left and right with the long lighted paddle  .

When I first laid my paddle into the water i was suspiciously drawing near  a tall rock facing out of the water and then i tried my best to try and avoid smacking into the rock but with no hesitation i smacked into it, it felt like my soul was washed outside of my body when the wind flowed past . When I felt the wind cross by It felt like It took my confidence with it but then I breathed slowly and calmly and then confidence hit me that's when I started to get the hang of it and I started to paddle around the rock and slowly paddle towards a roundabout gap near the waterfall . There was seaweed hanging off the side of the wall and it was like swinging forward and backward while following the directions of the wind .

While I was still trying to overcome my fear, half of my body was scared and wanted to give up but my other half of my body told me to keep going and overcome my fears. When I was still struggling I realized and thought to myself “Just have faith in yourself because  I know you can do It, then I started to believe In myself and have fun because I was by a beautiful waterfall on a beautiful day while birds of Tanemahuta were flying around looking above and beneath and then I knew I had the courage to believe in myself and just go with the tide .In the end of struggling how to have faith in myself all I knew I was missing a bit of faith and I needed to believe In myself even when no one did , but I took a risk and I overcame my fear by putting  a little bit faith In myself  .

Last week we went to camp at Kokako Lodge. My 5 minute snapshot shows my personal voice and I have tried hard to paint a picture with my words to describe what I was doing and how I felt. I found this acivity interesting because doing a recount of camp is to help me by hearing other people's idea's and what they thoiught andnidd in their recount and being able to have faith in myself .
