Organizing and Researching

LI: To use our smart searching skills to expand our knowledge of Ancient Greek Mythology .

Today David shared the next reading challenge with us. It is all about the Greek gods and helps us to practise the skills we have been learning in our reading lessons with our teachers.

David created this task as part of his CARE award challenges. In this smart searching activity, we used our comprehension and research skills to learn about the difference between Athens and Sparta.

I found this activity fun because I love learning about the ancient history of the god's and goddess who have onced ruled the world.

The word/place I found most interesting was … because …

Rock Paper Scissors

LI:To learn how to code the micobit to play rock paper scissors and understand how the flowchart matches the code.

Link To DLO

  1. When I shake the micobit, it will choose random number between 1 and 3.
  2. I have to make a variable called hand and set this to the random number.
  3. If the number is 1 - the micobit will show the symbol for paper.
  4. If the number is 2 - the micobit will shwo the symbol for rock.
  5. If the number is 3 - the micobit will shwo the symbol for scissors.
  6. Something I found interesting about doing this taks is being able to understand the steps of coding.

Life

LI:To write an abstract noun senses poem

Today we had a writing task with the whole classroom for Abstract Noun poems. An abstract noun is one that refers to an idea, quality or state.A metaphor is a comparison of two things, saying one thing is the other without using ‘like’ or ‘as’.For this task we also needed to know what the five senses are, they are smell, touch, taste, hear, see.In this activity we learnt how to understand what a metaphor is and how we use them writing. We worked in groups to collaborate on our task. This task was made into a  powerful eye catching DLO.Something we found interesting about doing this task was learning how to properly structure a abstract noun poem.
An example of abstract noun is the poem myself and my group put together by working together and learning from each other.

The five senses are see, hear, smell, touch, and taste.

A metaphor is a comparison to two things without using as or like.

An example of a metaphor is where you compare to things together without using like or as.

Something I found interesting about this task was wokring colloborating with my group and being able to learn from what they have to say or show.

Did This Happen

LI:To consider both perspectives

Our group has been focusing on consider both perspectives. Perspectives means a different points of view. Our group has been gathering information of our topic whether it is true or not.The topic was about sacred spots from Maori mythology. One of the myths our group decided to chose was Waipoua forest,Waipoua forest is the creation story of Tane Mahuta creating the Earth by lying between his parents Papatuanuku mother earth and Ranginui the sky father.Tane Mahuta pushed and stretched his parents apart to fight for the light and space for him and his siblings.Something we found interesting about our task given was exploring our researching skills to find the evidence that is true and not about the myth we have chosen above.

Summarising

LI:To explain in fewer words what the text is about

For reading, we have been focusing on summarising text information such as stories, articles and other texts. The text we used for this reading task was the traditional Maori story of how the world came to be. This text was about Papatuanuku and Ranginui waking up from eternal darkness in earth's first light, and Tane Mahuta (one of their children) separating them to grant his siblings and himself freedom from the darkness. Tawhirimatea was angry at the separation of his parents.

For this task, we found exactly twenty keywords to build an understanding of the text about. Keywords help us understand more in a short amount of time. Then from those twenty words, we chose six of those words to create a summary on. A summary is a short and brief description of the story so that we can understand the text in fewer words.

I enjoyed this task and found it easy because I am familiar with summarising and understanding texts using the key reading comprehension strategies so I can expand my knowledge of a story.

Main Ideas

LI:To indentify the main ideas in the text

For reading we have been focusing on the Maui and Sun story. Our task was to identify the main ideas in the text. Our information we have gathered together is our opinions we have mixed together to create a more explained main ideas.Something we learnt from this activity is to read the text and identify all the different main ideas we might find important to vital.Something we found interesting about this activity is being able to identify the main ideas of a text.

Venn Diagram

LI:Find as many simliarites and different as you can between the video and the text of " The Beggining.

For reading, we have been focusing on summarising text information such as stories, articles and other texts. The text we used for this reading task was the traditional Maori story of how the world came to be. This text was about Papatuanuku and Ranginui waking up from eternal darkness in earth's first light, and Tane Mahuta (one of their children) seperating them to grant his siblings and himself freedom from the darkness. Tawhirimatea was angry at the seperation of his parents.

For this task, we watched a video and read a text based off of the Maori story of how the world came to be (In the Beginning). We labelled the main parts of the video version that are not included in the written version, and labelled the main prts of the written version that were not included in the video. In the middle, we labelled the similarities between the two stories.

I really enjoyed this task and found it easy because I am familiar with identifying the key ideas and comparing the two similar but different texts/information sources.

Flowcharts and Dice

LI:To learn how to use flowcharts to plan coding

Link Google Drawing

This week for coding at tech is about flowcharts and dice.Ive learnt alot aboout flowcharts and coding the past few weeks, and Ive been buliding my coding skills too.Something I found interesting about coding is learning to make a flowchart about the task we are focusing on.Something I learnt about coding this week is using my knowledge I already know about coding and it really helps me.

Dialogue

LI:To understand how to use and correctly puncture dialogue when writing.

This week for our writing class we have we recapped what a dialogue text is about, and how to use it.

This is our DLO we have worked on to reflect our understanding of the purpose of dialogue in writing.

An example of how to use dialogue is:

“Are you new here?” questioned Mahdi.

“Yes, I am new here, can you please take me to room 7?”  replied James

“Sorry I’m actually new here. I was about to ask you if you wanted to be my friend,” awkwardly said Mahdi.

Something I found interesting about dialogue is that theres more different ways to write instead of saying said.

PB4L

 LI:Following Classroom Rules & Expectations | PB4L

This weeks PB4L learning is about following classroom rules and expectations. PB4L is a acronym describing Positive Behavior for Learning. PB4L helps us understand the correct behavior for inside classroom learning and outer learning. This consist of Classroom discussions, walking to assembly, behaviour on school trips, wet day procedure eg. respecting wet day monitors. All of these prospects will help us develop a strong and healthy learning enviroment. I found this activity interesting because myself and my group got to explain in our words what the expectations we have to show and what are expected to do.

New New Zealanders

LI:To idetify the main ideas in the text

We were tasked to read a story called "New New Zealanders," it was about how a boy named Christian Kaka and his family seeked for a better life in New Zealand due to the war going on at Syria. After the story we were tasked to identify the main ideas in the text. For the Three Vital Ideas were Registered refugees can't be sent back to their country, The Refugees wanted people to know their story and many families moved to New Zealand because their country is to dangerous.

This activity was interesting because I found out what hard journey the Kaka family had been through and how of a blessing was waiting for them at the end of their hard times.

Student Led Confrence's

LI:To share our learning with our families

Yesterday afternoon was our parent interveiws.LS2 has been working throughout the week to show our parents the learning we have done in Maths,Writing,InquiryReading. My interview was at 5:00 and my family who came to see and celebrate my learning was my mum,my love,my aunty and my two sisters. For student led conference I introduce my parents to my teachers then showed them around the room. The things that we showed on our 2021 learning journey was Maths,Writing,Reading and Inquiry.Something I found interesting about the parent interviews was being able to celebrate my learning with my family.

Being a Jedi in coding

LI:To code the robot backwards without toching it - to be a Jedi

My robot will wait until I have pressed the onboard button before it does anything. We used an "If -Then-Else"block, as this gives the robot two choices to do.We are using the ULTRASONIC SENSOR on the front of the robot and we need to sense if soemthing is 10cm in front of it.If soemthing is 10cm or LESS in front of the robot,Ut will move backwards. If soemthing is NOT less than 10cm in front of the robot,it will move forwards (Else). This is all put into a forever block so that the robot constantly senses what is in front of it.

Cinquain Poem

LI:To write a cinquain poem thats describes a sport star

We have been learning to write cinquain poems to help us strengthen our connections to description. A cinquain poem has 5 lines. Each line has a different purpose. Line 1 is a noun which is a name. Line 2 has 2 adjectives taht describe the noun. Line 3 has 3 verbs that end in ‘ing’ and describe the actions. Line 4 is a noun phrase which is a group of words (not a sentence) that go together to describe the noun. Line 5 is a synonym which is a word with a similar meaning to the noun. I enjoyed this activity because I got learn what a cinquain poem was and how to understand the cinquain structure.

My Reading Pathway

LI: To show my personal journey through the books

This week is book week at Panmure Bridge School, which means every class participates in a number of reading activities. One of our activities was to create a reading pathway that shows how my favourite books have changed over time. At the moment I like reading History books because it teaches me the past generations history and their living.

Polyneisan Pathers

LI: To evaluate (form an opinion) the text and respond to provocation.

A provocation is a meaningful action or speech that strikes strong feelings about lawful and political topics. A provocation is something used with the purpose to make someone feel angry or upset but that is not the purpose of our DLO. Were  the Polynesian Panthers right to Protest against the actions of the Government?

Polynesian Panthers was a group formed in 1971 by a group of university students and former gang members fighting for the rights of all polynesians that has been affected and scarred by these raids.Dawn Raids are raids that happened at dawn where police officers, government officials, and dog squads would raid the homes of Polynesian families and shine torches in the faces of many people no matter if they were elderly or little children police officers would ask for passports and ID if they were not shown then families who had all right to stay in New Zealand would be deported to there place of birth, this has caused trauma for many Polynesian people due to the traumatizing events that has taken place within their homes. The dawn aids will forever be a shameful stain in NZ. Police officers would also go up to people who looked Pacific Islander and  would ask for passports and identifecations these racial acts were kown as “Blitzes”.We think that the Polynesian Panthers had all right to protest against the wrongful actions of the Government because families were being teared apart and deported and also being traumatized due to the Dawn Raids.
